New Jersey and USMC Heroes
The ties between the Garden State and those whose Valor we all need to be reminded of.
The United States Marine Corps will celebrate the 250th anniversary of their founding — born in a tavern in Philadelphia — on November 10, 2025.
There are strong connections between the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the State of New Jersey — and ones where those New Jersey marines showed heroic valor, many times beyond the call of duty.
Just a short boatride (and now a leisurely walk across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge) across the Delaware River from Camden, New Jersey, sits the great city of Philadelphia — birthplace of both the United States and the USMC. Those ‘few good’ men in 1775, became the Continental Marines — and the following year captured an ammo depot in the Bahamas, which was controlled by the British. Later reformed after the Revolutionary War, the Marines have been ‘first to fight’ many, many times for our nation — and some iconic ones came from New Jersey.
